Todd Magee, J.D., MBA
Advisor to the CEO
After being involved with the organization for over 40 years as a volunteer, Todd Magee recently joined Operation Smile’s executive team as advisor to the CEO in 2024.
One of Todd’s first international experiences with Operation Smile took place as a 17-year-old high school student in 1988. He joined his father, Dr. Bill Magee, on a fact-finding team invited to Vietnam when General John Vessey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and special emissary to President Ronald Reagan, believed Operation Smile could help pave the way for normalization of relations between the United States and Vietnam. The trip left an indelible mark on Todd and since that moment in time he remained closely involved as a volunteer. In 2018 he began serving on the board of directors of Operation Smile and continues to do so.
Magee brings significant strategic business experience from various leadership roles across several sectors of the corporate world to Operation Smile. In this key role, he will support the CEO to drive the organization’s global strategy, promote stability and support long-term growth through initiatives such as advancing external partnerships in government, community and strategic alliances. He will also support key CEO and organization leadership decision making on financial management and alignment among C-suite executives by embodying Operation Smile’s values as a guiding principle for leadership and collaboration. Magee will also function as a pivotal bridge connecting the board of directors with the executive management team, playing a crucial role in fostering Operation Smile’s sustained growth, long-term vision and overall success.
Magee’s background brings a remarkable track record as an entrepreneur. He is the previous co-owner of two successful companies, American By-Products Recyclers LLC and Planet Earth Biodiesel LLC. Over his 14-year tenure as co-owner, Todd transformed American By-Products Recyclers LLC into the largest independently owned and operated cooking oil recycling company in the northeast.
In 2009, Todd vertically integrated Planet Earth Biodiesel LLC into the fold. As the driving force behind this venture, he spearheaded the permitting and fit-up of a 24,000-square-foot biodiesel/settling facility in Hillsborough, New Jersey. On the exit strategy, the company was successfully sold to a public entity in 2017.
In addition to owning his own U.S. businesses, Magee also has international corporate business experience. This includes working in Hong Kong for a large securities firm and serving as a financial analyst for Toyota in Panama.
Todd holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Loyola College (1993), a Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University (1997) with a quarter of his MBA credits accredited in Spanish at ESADE University in Barcelona, Spain, and a Juris Doctorate from Fordham School of Law (Lincoln Center) in New York City (2000). He returned to Georgetown as a professor to teach classes at the McDonough School of Business from 2016 to 2018.
After spending his childhood in Virginia and living in Washington, D.C. and New York City, Todd and his family spent a year-long residence in Santiago de Chile before settling in Boulder, Colorado, where they live today.
