Medical Missions

From March 4 through 16, Operation Smile conducted an international medical mission in Asunción, Paraguay. During the medical mission, 233 people received patient assessments and 113 received surgery.

Over the past decade, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in Asunción. Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 50 medical professionals and non-medical volunteers from Paraguay who donate their time in Paraguay, as well as elsewhere in South America. Since 2005, Operation Smile has provided medical care to more than 1,600 children in Paraguay with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

In September 2014, Operation Smile Paraguay opened a year round care center, Clínica Integral de Labio y Paladar Hendido Del Paraguay, to provide surgeries to patients with cleft lip and cleft palate. In addition to surgical consultations, the center provides dental and orthodontics care, child life, nutrition, psychology consultations and speech therapy.
