Dr. Gaurav Deshpande, M.D.S., MBA

Dr. Gaurav Deshpande is the associate vice president of medical oversight and safety, a position he has held since 2022, as well as a cleft and craniofacial surgeon. Previously, he was the head of research and training at the Operation Smile Guwahati center in the State of Assam in northeast India, where he trained more than 25 surgeons and 250 volunteers from various medical specialties. Before joining Operation Smile, Deshpande was an associate professor at MGM Dental College and Hospital in Mumbai, where he founded and successfully ran the comprehensive cleft center from 2015 to 2021.

In addition, Deshpande was a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Pennsylvania State Hershey School of Medicine. He completed his training in maxillofacial and oral surgery from Nair Hospital in Mumbai. He had a fellowship in craniofacial surgery in Guwahati, India, and received an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Originally from Mumbai, Deshpande is currently based in Baltimore, Maryland.
