Joanne Bowers
Vice President, U.S. Integrated Marketing
Joanne Bowers joined Operation Smile in 2020 as the vice president, integrated marketing and is responsible for the strategy and lifecycle management of donor audiences. She works closely with other development department heads to establish strategies to grow audiences and build lifelong relationships via multi-channel, data-driven marketing initiatives. As a senior leader within the development department, Bowers has direct oversight over the general market audience portfolio and channel marketing activities (including DRTV, direct mail, digital, telemarketing and print).
Prior to this position, she was chief audience officer at March of Dimes from 2018 to 2020 and vice president of client services at Resource One Fundraising Group Atlanta 2015 to 2018. Her primary responsibilities were managing client accounts and assisting in growth and development of staff as well as the overall agency. From 2012 to 2015, she worked at Blackbaud as the director, strategic services. Drawing on her passion for helping nonprofits succeed through increased access to information and analysis, as director of the group, Bowers was responsible for refining strategic services and business intelligence/analytics for Blackbaud’s enterprise clients that included the American Cancer Society, St. Joseph’s Indian School and AARP.
Bowers is a frequent speaker and writer on topics such as direct response marketing and online innovations. She was voted one of the “10 Most Influential Women in Direct Response” by The Nonprofit Times. Originally from New Jersey, Bowers lives in North Carolina.
